Sunday night before bed, I decided that the next day (yesterday), I would do a Day in the Life of Shay (because of all of the comments from you guys requesting one!). Let me tell you...yesterday, was the perfect example of my everyday life. It was really quite typical...you're probably going to think I'm really boring. I hope this satisfies some of you out there...here you go...a Day in the Life of Me..
Clock says 4:35 AM...time for coffee and some work.
The view from my desk. I'm eating some trail mix with my coffee.
Whoa! Me at 4:40 AM. (I'm nothing if not honest...so here you go, an unflattering, totally normal, pic of me).
I worked until 7:00...now, I'm on to my second cup of coffee with a whole wheat English muffin for breakfast (one topped with peanut butter and the other with Nutella).
Good morning Poppy Popsicle
It was an exciting morning! It was our first frost. This is my patio.
Kensington woke up at 7:35 and I showed her the frost (that's a big deal if you live in Texas!).
Kensington went and found her Elf. He was napping in her baby's basket.
This kid is always smiles and sunshine. I woke him up at 7:45.
They take turns opening their advent calendar. (Kensington has odd days and Smith even). There are two pieces of chocolate in there...one for each of them. This year, we're letting them open the calendar in the morning. In our house, morning just makes the day more fun, it's more exciting and we're less likely to forget. Yes, they're having chocolate before 8 AM. No, I don't care. :)
He's so proud of his candy!
In our house, being the "line leader" is also very important. (I have no idea why???) All it means is that when I say "line up", that child gets to be the first one into the garage to get in the car. Who cares? They do! Yesterday, we left for the gym at 8:20 and it was Kensington's day. She's holding her post.
In the car, headed to the gym. Yes, I'm wearing my coat over my gym clothes (it was 20 degrees!). Andrew commented that it was an interesting look. It was.
My gym locker. After I worked out, I showered and changed my clothes.
Back in the car at 10:30, dressed and ready to meet Sheaffer at the mall. We do something between the gym and home every day (usually the park) but since it was 20 degrees...we decided to meet Sheaffer at the mall and let the kids eat lunch and then play on the indoor play ground.
**My biggest mistake of the day...I forgot to take pics at the mall! Ugg...we ate lunch and then Sheaffer and I totally ignored the three kids while they played and we chatted. We had so much fun! We stayed at the mall until 12:20 and then headed home.
As soon as I got home, my skinny jeans came off and my sweats came on.
My kids watched one Mickey Mouse before their naps. Kensington put her coat on at 8:00 AM and kept it on until her bath at 7:30 PM. She even napped in it. She wasn't cold...she was fashionable.
Smith took his nap at 1:15 and then Kensington stayed up a little longer to help me in the kitchen. I was making something for Mix and Match Mama...I'm not going to lie...it turned out awesome! I will be blogging in on Sunday morning! After this, Kensington went down for her nap. They both slept until I woke them up at 5:15 (don't hate!).
Meanwhile, Sheaffer called me and said that while she was at the mall (she stayed a few minutes later than me), she found me 3 bracelets and would be dropping them off. Sheaffer is great at shopping for others!! So, now I'm on the driveway receiving my 3 new bracelets. She shopped for me and then delivered the merchandise to my house...that's a pretty awesome friend!
Then, I went back inside the house and worked on a vacation for some clients (Hawaii!). Mix and Match Travel operates mostly during the afternoon.
Andrew stopped by the house to bring home Poppy. Andrew only works 8 minutes away from the house and so on most days, he takes Poppy with him for a little bit. (The joys of owning your own business...you can bring your dog to work!)
After my work, I had some laundry to fold...if I fold 2 loads a day, it's never too overwhelming.
I stopped for a snack of pretzels and hummus and a little magazine time (my favorite down time is reading a magazine...I have 17 subscriptions...don't judge.) After about 15 minutes of this, it was time to empty the dishwasher and make dinner.
I woke the kids up at 5:15...Smith was dancing to Christmas music while I cooked. (I don't know why this picture won't rotate...but this is him dancing!)
Three nights a week, I make something original for dinner to blog about...2 nights a week, we repeat a meal from the past and then on Friday and Saturday nights, we eat out. This was a repeat night...Andrew's Taco Salad. Yes, we eat off of Christmas plates and drink out of Christmas glasses this time of year :).
When you have a boy, they always have some sort of injury (see the band-aid on his face?), they take army men everywhere with them, and they often wear Woody's hat from Toy Story. A silly mess!
After dinner, we bundled up and walked to the grocery store (I needed some peppermint ice cream for a Mix and Match recipe). We walk after dinner at least 3 nights a week. Andrew was blowing leaves at the kids before we headed off. They loved it!
I look like a lion with my furry hood on! We're bundled and headed to the grocery store.
Bath time around 7:30!
Then, we turned on The Sound of Music for them and busted out the Christmas popcorn. My kids love any movie where singing and dancing is involved. We just fast-forwarded to the fun, singing parts. My kids loved it! (Remember when they were babies and we took them to Salzburg, Austria to see where the Sound of Music was filmed??). Time flies!
They danced to the songs...silly kids! I hopped in the shower while they finished watching and put my pjs on.
The kiddos were in bed at 8:30 and I painted my nails. (I paint them twice a week) This time, my new fave for Christmas is The Spy That Loved Me...it's red with gold flecks. Love!
After that, I ate one of my Every Day Brownies and got ready for Michael Buble's Christmas special to start at 9:00.
I love him. I love, love, love Michael Buble.
At 10:00, I brushed my teeth, climbed into bed and watched one episode of Frasier. I turned off TV and went to bed at 10:22.
That was my day. If you know me, you can testify to the fact that it was pretty routine. Lots of love, lots of fun and lots of sillyness.
Now it's Tuesday...I have to stop blogging...I have work to do!
