Fifty Two Shades of Shay: Boyfriend Jeans

Today, I am cheating on my first love with my boyfriend.

From May through August, my heart belongs to shorts (especially colored short ones) but during the cold months of fall and winter, my heart loves my boyfriend...

...boyfriend jeans that is.

This is how I felt three years ago when I tried on my first pair of boyfriend jeans.  It was like finding a long lost love.  Now I know...I have lost some of you.  But WAIT!  Before you stop reading, hear me out...listen to what I have to say about my boyfriend jeans...

Reasons why I love the boyfriend

1. They are not tight.  Nothing is worse than squeezing into a pair of stiff and tight jeans.  It's like torture.  Boyfriend jeans are made to fit at your waist but be loose on your hips and thighs.  No more squeezing into skintight, uncomfortable jeans.

2. You can spend less money on boyfriend jeans.  Anytime you buy cheap jeans, they eventually sag in the butt.  Period.  They do.  This is why people buy expensive jeans...to keep their derriere lookin' good throughout the day.  However, boyfriend jeans are not supposed to be tight in the tush, so you can spend a lot less on jeans because you're not concerned about the backside fitting.  Trust me, once you realize this, you will have a hard time going back to shelling out big bucks for pricey pants!

3. They don't have to be distressed.  I own two pair of boyfriend jeans that are not distressed.  I love a good ripped jean but they don't have to be ripped to be boyfriend.  Don't panic if you're not into the holes, you don't have to have them.

4. Boyfriend jeans work with almost any shoe (flats, heels, wedges, booties, flip flops, pumps, and so on).  You don't have to hem them to match your shoe heel height (no more "these are my shoes hemmed for flats and these are my shoes hemmed for heels").  Boyfriend jeans work with them all.  Don't believe me...check this out...

To show you how versatile my boyfriend jeans are, I wore the same jeans with 9 different pairs of shoes out of my own closet.  Do you see?  From flats to pumps to booties, Toms and wedges, I wear them with everything!

Here are some of my favorite boyfriend jeans out right now...and you'll notice, none of them are pricey!

These Jolt Jeans are only $34!  So cute!

This pair is great if you're looking for a lighter version.

And if you're not lookin' for a lot of distressing, these babies are your answer.

These Kut from the Kloth boyfriend jeans have absolutely no distressing on them...very sophisticated for a boyfriend jean.

And then there are the famous Gap Boyfriend Jeans...
...they are priced well, come in multiple colors and styles (even cords!), they fit great...they are perfect.  I own several pair.  Trust me, you cannot go wrong with Gap's take on the boyfriend jean!

Rules for Boyfriend Jeans
1. Even though they don't fit snug in the butt and thighs, they should still fit.  Wearing a pair of your old "fat" jeans when you're not that size anymore does not constitute boyfriend jeans.  Your waist size will remain the same when ordering them, they'll just have a looser fit.

2. I love pairing something sharp with my destructed ones.  You're kind of cool with holes in your jeans but you're pulled together with a fitted tee and knit jacket up top.

Like, yesterday's Pin-spired post...

Destructed boyfriend jeans with a tweed jacket...classic (in a cool/fresh kind of way).

3. They're relaxed pants...be relaxed and confident when wearing them!

Here is a sneak peek at Friday's Shopping with Sheaffer and Shay...look, 4 different looks and 4 different pair of boyfriend jeans.

So there you have it...my first love are shorts but my second love are my boyfriend jeans.  You should try a pair...trust me, you'll love them too.
