South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for March 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Spicy Thai Style Cabbage Slaw with Mint and Cilantro
Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipe from March 2012 was definitely this Spicy Thai-Style Cabbage Slaw with Mint and Cilantro.

(I've finally finished this round-up, which was delayed by me being seriously under the weather.  Thanks again for all the get-well wishes everyone, and happy Cooking!)

I know, I say this every single month, but has another whole month really gone screaming by?  Not that I'm complaining about the arrival of April, the month when spring delicacies like asparagus start appearing in the stores.  Of course in Utah it can still snow in April or May, so I try not to get my hopes up too much for good weather.  Spring-like recipes have been appearing all during March, and I'm happy to be sharing some really fantastic South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes that I've posted on Kalyn's Kitchen or found on other blogs during the month, including my personal favorites that I'm now spotlighting every Friday for Phase One Fridays.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for April 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes
Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipe for April 2012 is Ground Beef Gyro Meatball Lettuce Wraps with Tzatziki and Tomatoes.

It's May, which means the arrival of summer can't be far away now.  This year I'm urging summer on a little by heading out on a road trip to California, where I'll be speaking at Camp Blogaway, hanging out at my brother Rand's house, hopefully meeting up with some food blogging friends, and having a birthday dinner with the cutest twins in the world.  I've been working for a few weeks to get posts written in advance so I could have an actual vacation without too much time spent working, and I'm looking forward to getting away.  But before I get on the road, here's the monthly round-up of Phase One recipes I've posted this week or found on other food blogs.  Happy eating everyone!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for May 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Heart of Palm Salad with Tomato, Avocado, and Lime
Kalyn's favorite Phase One recipe this month is Heart of Palm Salad with Tomato, Avocado, and Lime (with or without cilantro!)

It's Summer!  I don't know how it get here quite this quickly but everywhere I go on the internet people are talking about hot weather and lots of salads have been on the menu at my house. I love summer; maybe it's all those years of being a teacher!  And when the weather gets warm and gardens start to produce lots of lovely veggies, I think it's so much easier to stick to a healthy eating plan.  And of course the arrival of a new month means it's time for another monthly round-up of the Phase One recipes I've posted this month or spotted on other food blogs.  Whether you're thinking about Phase One or just trying to eat things that are light due to the hot weather, there are a lot of delicious-sounding options this month!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for June 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Spicy Cabbage Slaw with Chicken and Cilantro
Out of all the Phase One Favorites this month, I picked Spicy Cabbage Slaw with Chicken and Cilantro.

The calendar has changed from June to July, and we're officially in the time of year for "summer food."   For me that means veggies from the garden, easy main dish salads, and grilled foods, and that kind of lighter eating makes life a bit easier for anyone who's focusing on Phase One.  Of course, summer also means traveling, which can lead to indulging in foods you'd probably be able to resist at home, so maybe what's needed in the summer is a balance between the fresh seasonal foods that are so diet-friendly and the indulgences when you're traveling.  This round-up of the South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes that I've posted on Kalyn's Kitchen or found on other blogs during June can help you with the light seasonal eating, but you're on your own when it comes to resisting the more indulgent summer foods!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for July 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet friendly Grilled Lemon-Cumin Chicken with Charmoula Sauce
Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipe for July 2012 was Grilled Lemon-Cumin Chicken with Charmoula Sauce

Everywhere I've gone lately people are talking about how July has gone screaming by, and now it's over!  I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels a sense of dread when the summer months are approaching the end, but now that I don't go back to school in the fall, I consider August and September to both be part of summer.  That gives you plenty of time left to try some of these tasty Phase One Recipes I've posted on Kalyn's Kitchen or found on other months during the month of July.  Summer foods are so easy to make diet-friendly, so I hope you enjoy some of these drool-worthy dishes while summer is still hanging on!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for August 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Hungarian Cucumber Salad
Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipe for August was definitely Al's Famous Hungarian Cucumber Salad.

It's hard to believe it's Labor Day weekend, but I know the calendar doesn't lie.  I keep reminding myself that warm weather usually lasts at least through September in Utah, which is a good thing because I have some very tasty warm-weather foods to share in this Round-up of South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes that I've posted on Kalyn's Kitchen or found on other food blogs during August.  Once I have this collection of tasty Phase One Recipes posted, I'll be taking the rest of the holiday weekend off to relax and enjoy the nice weather.  Happy Labor Day weekend; I'll be back on Tuesday with a new recipe.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for September 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Slow Cooker Spicy Shredded Chicken Lettuce Wrap Tacos
These Slow Cooker Spicy Shredded Chicken Lettuce Wrap Tacos were my Phase One pick for September!

I normally publish my monthly round-up of Phase One recipes on the first day of each month.  But since yesterday was World Vegetarian Day as well as being Meatless Monday, it didn't seem like a good week to skip the Meatless Monday post!  But even if it's a day late, this round-up is filled with tasty-sounding Phase One ideas, just in case anyone is doing Phase One for a little pre-holiday tune-up.  And even if you're not the tiniest bit interested in Phase One, I bet you still might like some of the lovely dishes I found.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for October 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes
Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes for October 2012 were Layered Mexican Casserole, Spicy Asian Stir-Fried Swiss Chard, Oven-Fried Green Tomatoes, and Spicy Vegan Peanut Butter Tofu with Sriracha.

The extended Denny family has quite a few people who've lost weight using principles from the South Beach Diet, and one of them is my niece Emily.  She's now a complete fitness success story and fully embraces low-glycemic eating and exercise as a lifestyle, but in her early days of doing South Beach I remember her telling me, "Some days I feel like all I can eat is meat and salad."  Lately I've been reflecting on how much that simple comment Emily made a few years ago impacted what I'm trying to do here on Kalyn's Kitchen.   Anyone can lose weight eating grilled chicken and salad, but I hope my creative efforts are helping provide other low-glycemic eating choices to make it easier to stay on plan.  Lately I've been trying to get creative with Phase One Casseroles and Slow Cooker Dishes, and  with that in mind, I'm adding another category for those dishes to the monthly South Beach Diet Phase One Recipe Round-ups, starting with this month.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for November 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes
Phase One Recipes from Kalyn's Kitchen or other blogs during November 2012!

Let's all wave goodbye to November.  And since another month has ended, it's time for another round-up of South Beach Diet Phase One recipes I've posted during the month or found on other blogs.  Since it's the month with a holiday where overindulging in food is part of the tradition, you might think November would be slim pickings when it comes to South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes, but this round-up has surprisingly good assortment of dishes.  And just in time, since my normal December plan is to be ultra disciplined the first three weeks of the month (since I know the days from Christmas to New Year's will be pretty indulgent.)  For anyone else who's doing a little pre-holiday dieting, I hope these recipes will be useful.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for December 2012 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

A Delicious Assortment of South Beach Diet Phase One Recipe Ideas from December 2012.  (Photos above from Kalyn's Kitchen, Cookin' Canuck, Simply Recipes, and The Perfect Pantry.)

Everyone who is raring to go and ready to start Phase One today, raise your hand.  (Kalyn's hand is raised high in the air.)  I knew it was time for Phase One when I looked back at my folder of recipes I'd found during December for this Round-Up and saw how few Phase One Recipes I made myself  during the month!  But what may be lacking in quantity is more than made up in quality in this Round-Up.  And if you're starting Phase One today and looking for ideas, there is always the Phase One Recipe Index or the Index Page for the Monthly Phase One Recipe Round-Ups to look through.   And just like last year, I'll be featuring Daily Phase One Recipes all during January to help you keep on track.  (You can also use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)  Now, let's see the delicious recipes I found in December.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up from January 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

My Favorite Phase One Recipes from January included Spicy Turkey Lettuce Wraps, Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken, Spicy Mexican Casserole with Ground Beef and Black Beans, and Shrimp Salad Cabbage Cups.

It's February!  And if you were following along with January's Month of Daily Phase One Recipes, you can imagine how this round-up is going to be jam-packed with great Phase One recipe ideas.  A lot of my favorite healthy food blogs were featuring lighter fare during January as well, so I'm hoping everyone reading this will discover at least a few new amazing recipes you can work into your dinner rotation.  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for February 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Collage of South Beach Diet friendly recipes
My favorite Phase One Recipes from February 2013 include CrockPot (or stovetop) Black Bean Chili with Lime and Cilantro, Baked Eggs with Mushrooms and Parmesan, Vegetarian Greek Lentil Casserole with Bell Peppers and Feta, and Fattoush-Inspired Chopped Salad with Buttermilk-Tahini Dressing, Chickpeas, Sumac, and Pine Nuts.

Before I send you off to look at South Beach Diet Phase One low-glycemic recipes I posted during February or spotted on other food blogs, I have some pretty exciting news to share.  After saving my money for years and looking at houses for months, I am moving to a new house later this month!  I'll be moving back to the city where I grew up just north of Salt Lake, where I'll be much closer to family members, (including many, many cute little kids that I might get a chance to babysit now that I live closer and have a playroom.)  I love my new house, and promise to share a few kitchen photos once I get moved in.

Sorting through and packing up all the stuff I've accumulated in 25 years at my current house is going to be a rather daunting job (especially since my broken arm is still limiting what I can lift) and I'm guessing that the posting schedule here might be a little lighter than usual this month. But I'm grateful to the many family members and friends who have offered to help, and I should be somewhat settled into the new house by late March.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for March 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes
My favorite Phase One Recipes from March 2013 were Thai-Inspired Ground Turkey Larb Salad, Roasted Bell Peppers and Red Onions with Turkey Italian Sausage, Mediterranean Spinach Salad, and Spicy Sauteed Chickpeas with Ground Beef.

It's April, and I've been living in my new house for a week and one day, and I'm completely in love with the house.  It's a good thing, because after moving 25 years of accumulated stuff, I never want to move again!  During March, all that time spent moving meant a lot less time to spend cooking or looking for Phase One recipes, but somehow I still managed to find quite a few recipes to share for the Round-Up.  And the stress of moving meant way too much comfort food was consumed, so I'll be doing Phase One myself for a few weeks during April to try to get back on track!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for April 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Recipes
My favorite Phase One Recipes from April 2013 were Lentil Taco Salad, Roasted Asparagus with Gremolata, Roasted Garbanzo and Vegetable Salad, and Spicy Broccoli Jicama Salad.

It's May 1, and the gardener inside me is fighting to get out.  Unfortunately my new house has serious gardening challenges (like higher elevation and critters) that will take me at least a year to work out before I'll have a garden that's even close to the garden I'm used to.   I will plant a few things in the small chicken-wire enclosed garden space the previous owners had, and I do have a few herbs growing in my window, but I may have to make more trips to the farmer's market, or even share a CSA share with someone to get my veggie fix this summer.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for May 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes
It's salad season, and my favorite Phase One Recipes for May 2013 were Leafy Green Salad with Roasted Chickpeas, Leftover Chicken Asian Chopped Salad, Barely Blanched Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad, and Pinto Bean Salad with Avocado, Tomatoes, Red Onion, and Cilantro.

It doesn't take more than a peek at the South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for May to see that food bloggers have made the mental switch to summer eating.  There are lots and lots of salads, an abundance of foods cooked on the grill, plenty of fish, very few soups or stews, and recipe titles with summer ingredients like Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Basil, or Pesto.  Everyone loves summer don't they, (even people who haven't spent 30 years of their life teaching elementary school!)  I get so inspired by the fresh bright flavors that come with summer eating, and I think this recipes round-up has enough good ideas to keep you eating delicious food for weeks, whether or not you're doing Phase One.

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for June 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes for June 2013 were Spicy Chopped Greek-Style Salad, Grilled Halibut with Basil Vinaigrette, Grilled Chicken with Lemon, Capers, and Oregano, and Vietnamese Cabbage Salad.

It's July! In Utah this is a double-holiday month because we have Pioneer Day along with the 4th of July, so people here get two long weekends to spend celebrating.  And summer celebrations are prime time for grilling outside or starting to enjoy garden produce; I love the food from this time of year.  People tend to eat lighter foods when it's hot outside, which also makes this a perfect time to find new Phase One recipes from other blogs.  This round-up has some lovely ideas for grilled foods or garden vegetables; hope you'll find at least one or two recipes here that might become a favorite on your table.  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for July 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes from July 2013 were Grilled Halloumi Cheese Skewers, Egg-Crust Vegetarian Breakfast Pizza, Middle Eastern Tomato Salad, and Grilled Chicken and Veggie Kabobs with Garlic and Basil.

Even though I no longer head back to school every August, I still have a slight feeling of panic when that calendar page turns over.  All too soon grilling on the deck, tomato sandwiches, and fresh herbs from the garden will be gone for another year.  I kept wishing summer would last longer all the while I was typing up this South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up, because things I found this month were so seasonal, so summery, and just so darn delicious looking (and the thought of diet food never entered my mind.)  I'd have a hard time choosing just which one of these recipes I'd like to try first, but if you have time for a comment, I'd love to hear which one really catches your attention.  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for August 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's Favorite Phase One Recipes for August 2013 were Grilled Zucchini Caprese Stacks; Green Bean, Tomato, and Feta Salad; Summer Tomato Salad with Goat Cheese; and Slow Cooker Frittata with Kale.

I really love September, when Utah has the most perfect weather imaginable, but I have to admit I always feel a sense of impending loss when I realize that summer flavors are not going to be around much longer.  And if you look through this round-up of South Beach Diet Phase One (Low-Glycemic) Recipes from the past month, you'll notice that there's definitely a summer-foods theme in the ones that are from my own blog.  I can't help myself; when I have fresh tomato salads and zucchini, that's about all I want to eat!  Luckily there are lots of options featured from other blogs to round out the menu of delicious low-glycemic recipes for this month; hope you enjoy trying some of them!  (You can use the label Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups to see all the posts like this one.)

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-up for September 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes for September 2013 were Three Cheese Zucchini Frittata, Baby Kale Paleo Taco Salad, Sriracha Beef Cabbage Bowl, and Roasted Balsamic Zucchini and Mushrooms.

Another month has gone screaming by, and it's time for me to share the links I've collected all month for this round-up of low-glycemic recipes. (All the recipes here are suitable or easily adapted for the South Beach Diet Phase One, and many are also Low Carb, Gluten Free or Paleo.)  And I probably say this every month, but what a great-looking collection of healthy recipe ideas!

It's been a busy month behind the scenes at Kalyn's Kitchen.  If you follow me on Facebook, you know I'm in the middle of having the blog re-designed.  I'm aiming for a new site that will feel very similar (with most functional elements located exactly where they are now) but the new look will also have expanded features (including a second row of tabs with categories to make it easier to find certain types of recipes.)  I'm getting excited, and it won't be long now, so keep an eye out for the new look!

South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes Round-Up for October 2013 (Low-Glycemic Recipes)

Kalyn's favorite Phase One Recipes for October 2013 were Greek Salad Spaghetti Squash BowlSlow Cooker Chickpea Stew, Chicken Paprikash, and Turkey and Black Bean Mexican Cabbage Bowl.

It's time for the monthly Round-Up of South Beach Diet Phase One Recipes that I've posted during the previous month or spotted on other food blogs.  You can tell it's Fall by scrolling through these recipes; I spotted lots more soups and not many salads, and cauliflower seems to be Veggie of the Month for October.  I doubt many people start a diet in November, so I hope it doesn't seem cruel to draw attention to Phase One when everyone's thinking about Thanksgiving Recipes.  But in January when you're looking for food that's a bit lighter and lower in carbs, you might enjoy looking back through my Low-Glycemic Recipe Round-Ups like this one! (And for those who try to stick to a low-glycemic eating plan even during the holidays, more power to you!  I do my best, but it's hard this time of year.)
